Last-Minute Heroics Seal Victory for SBCC Over LA Harbor CC

WILMINGTON, CA - In a thrilling match that had spectators on the edge of their seats, SBCC Men's Soccer emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over LA Harbor CC.

It was not smooth going for SBCC for most of the match, as a red card reduced them to 10 men just 35 minutes in. However, adversity fueled their spirit, and the team shined under the pressure. Players like Gino Contreras, Brandon Garcia de la Fuente, Aiden Tapia-Palacios, and Yahir Vasquez put on an offensive masterclass, continuously pressuring the LA Harbor defense.

The defensive trio of Ivan Virgen, Uli Sevilla, and Hernan Sevilla thwarted numerous attempts by LA Harbor, keeping SBCC in contention throughout the game.

Yet, it was Charles Jay Retzer's stunning last-minute free kick, a display of both power and precision, that stole the spotlight. Striking the ball beautifully from 40 yards out, he watched as it sailed into the net, sealing the win for SBCC.

Coach Alexander Zermeno, bursting with pride, shared after the game, "The team really showed that they can compete, and problem solve when things don't always go our way." He added, "I am super proud of every single one of these players – from those that played to those that traveled with the team. This game is won in training, during warm-ups before a match, and every one of the 24 players who traveled was ready to step up when their number was called."

This win, characterized by Retzer's last-minute brilliance, exemplifies the heart and determination of the SBCC men's soccer team. The season ahead holds promise, and fans can anticipate more enthralling performances.

The Men's Soccer team will travel to Rio Hondo next Friday for their next match at 6:00 PM.
