Emerson Sekban and Andrew Tufenkian fell behind 4-1 in their WSC doubles semifinal set on Thursday and Ventura's Michael Burr/Guenter Newman held off the SBCC duo, 8-5.

Sekban/Tufenkian, the No. 2 seed, won three of four games to pull within 5-4 in the match at Ventura College. Burr/Newman lost in the final in straight sets to their top-seeded teammates Corey Karen and Hiro Koyanagi.

"It was a very windy day and that made things tough for everyone," said SBCC coach Randy Moharram, who helped restore the Vaqueros' program after a two-year hiatus.

The Vaqueros will send six players (two singles, three doubles teams) to the State Individual Championships on April 21-24 at the Ojai Tournament.

Sasha Hedberg is seeded No. 5 in Southern Cal singles and Sekban is No. 27. Sekban/Tufenkian are No. 17 in doubles. Sekban is a freshman from England and Tufenkian is a freshman from Dos Pueblos High.
