SBCC season ends in Round of 32 at State

Spencer Ekola dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to defending state champion Javi Callejo of Irvine Valley on Friday in the Round of 32 at the CCCAA Men's Tennis State Championships.

Callejo, the No. 9 seed from the South, is a sophomore from Madrid, Spain. He beat Ekola in an early morning match at the Channel Islands Racquet Club in Oxnard. Ekola went 18-7 in his freshman season and reached the semifinals of the WSC Tournament.

Ekola and Emerson Sekban were seeded 15th in doubles. The faced the top seeds from the North, Cody Duong and Tam Duong of state runner-up American River, and lost 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 32.
