SBCC played as close a men's tennis match as you can play without winning in Tuesday's WSC opener at Pershing Park. L.A. Pierce pulled out the 5-4 triumph by taking an 8-6 tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

The Vaqueros were tied 3-3 after the singles and 4-4 after two doubles. Andrew Kimelman and Alex Clarke edged Johannes Bunse and Kyle Wells 9-8 (8-6 tiebreaker) for the winning point. Bunse/Wells rallied from a 7-4 deficit to force overtime (doubles are one set to eight games and you have to win by two games unless it's 8-8, then you go to a tiebreaker).

SBCC's Albert Chami won the match of the day at No. 4 singles, outlasting Daniel Vinterfeld 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5) to tie the match at 3-3.

Guillaume Daurelle and Bunse got the other singles points for SBCC (2-4, 0-1). Arthur Scharff and Chami claimed the No. 2 doubles with a thrilling 9-7 win.

The Vaqueros travel to Ventura on Thursday for a 2 p.m. contest.
