Daurelle, Fumat make State, along with 3 doubles teams

Guillaume Daurelle and Pierre Alexandre Fumat qualified for the State men's tennis tournament on Saturday on Day 2 of the WSC Individual Tournament at Ventura College.

Daurelle, a freshman from Avignon, France, was the third seed. He beat a player from Pierce 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 16, then fell to No. 7 Adrien Etiemble of Ventura 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Fumat, also from France, lost to top-seeded Solal Cherqui of Ventura 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 16. He rallied past No. 8 Kevin Orellana of Glendale 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 in the back draw to earn a spot in the State Championships (April 26-29 at The Ojai).

Arthur Scharff fell in the Round of 16 to No. 6 Priyank Soni of Ventura 6-2, 6-2, then dropped his back draw match, 6-1, 6-1.

The Vaqueros' three doubles teams also qualified for the state tourney. Daurelle/Fumat, the No. 4 seed, reached the quarterfinals before losing to Rodrigo Perdigao/Augustin Lestelle of Ventura 8-3.

Scharff and Albert Chami made the state tourney with an 8-2 back-draw win and Johannes Bunse/Kyle Wells also qualified with an 8-4 triumph.
