Andres Decock and Dominic Signorello cruised into the Round of 16 in the CCCAA State Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday, then dropped a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision to third-seeded Younes Kodiji/Tommy Luu of American River at Hueneme High.
Decock/Signorello swept past Lucas Fortt/Shayan Haddad Kaveh of Saddleback, losing just one game (6-0, 6-1) in a Round of 32 match. They were the only unseeded team to make the Round of 16.
"Andres and Dominic had a great tournament, winning three matches and knocking off one of the toughest teams in the state (the 7th-seed from Desert) in the second round," said coach Chris McBride. "We ran out of gas against an ARC team that probably wasn't as good.
"We had our chances and were actually ahead 4-1 in the second set but couldn't close it out."
In a Round of 32 singles match on Friday at 8 a.m., Decock lost to No. 1 and unbeaten Kalman Boyd of state champion College of the Desert, 6-0, 6-4.
