THOUSAND OAKS, CA - The Vaqueros Men's Tennis began the season with a scrimmage against Div III Cal Lutheran Thursday afternoon. CLU won the match 7-2.

The Kingsmen doubles teams were fast and highly skilled. Two of the three Vaqueros doubles teams went deep into the pro set before the CLU secured all the doubles points.

The Vaqueros recovered well and got off to a good start in singles. Dominic Arnell had a notable performance, coming back from a set down and down 2-4 in the tiebreaker to close out the second set 9-7. Then, he played solidly to win the 3rd set superbreaker 10-7. Arnell played long points and defended very well against a big serving crafty left hander, Andy Ai, to take the match 4-6, 7-6, 10-7.

Mauritz Seitz battled Ethan Sherwood, the CLU #1 singles player. Seitz was victorious 7-5, 6-4. The Vaquero played intelligently and found his rhythm after breaking serve early in both sets.

"The key for Mauritz today was his ability to hold serve and keep enough pressure on his opponent with his great wheels," head coach Danny Echt said.

Freshman Ada Guler had a strong showing in doubles with Connor Schloemer and played a gutsy singles match against James Truong, a very steady opponent.

"It was my first time playing college tennis," Guler said. "My teammates and I had great chemistry, and we were always supporting each other. I am happy to be playing on this beautiful team."
