SANTA BARBARA, CA - The Santa Barbara City College Men's Tennis team played intelligent tennis today in a pre-season match against visiting Saddleback, winning 9-0.
"The Vaqs competed with a focused calm, kept the unforced errors to a manageable number, and took advantage of attacking opportunities," head coach Danny Echt said. "Today was an impressive mental game performance from each and every player as positivity and concentration were frequently displayed. It is exciting to see growth and maturity already in a small amount of matches thus far this season."
Freshman Matias Lapidus paired with Dominic Arnell in the #2 doubles spot and scored an 8-4 victory by keeping pressure on their opponents and taking care of their offensive volleys. Matias summed up the match today, saying, "We came into the match with a good winning mentality and I believe that was shown in the score. The team had really good energy today and everyday we grow closer and that helps the overall momentum of the team."
The Vaqueros are 1-1 on the season and travel to Orange Coast on Tuesday.
