Santa Barbara City College traveled to Occidental to compete against NCAA Div. III Occidental College, falling 1-6 on Saturday. The Vaqueros rebounded with an 8-1 win over Fresno City College on Monday.

Against Occidental, Vaqueros No. 1 Mauritz Seitz beat Darren Isak in an exciting, hard-hitting matchup 6-4, 6-2. Mauritz's court coverage was impressive today and Isak moved the Vaquero No.1 deep in the court and wide in the alleys. Their points were solid with clean ball striking and Mauritz withstood quite a bit of pace by the Occidental No. 1. "Mauritz has developed his serve as of late as he came up big in crucial points," said head coach Danny Echt. "Mauritz is also showing versatility as mid-court decision-making to get on the front foot enables him to get his opponent on his heels and that's when Mauritz is finding the winning volley opportunities."

Against Fresno, Sophomore Ada Guler had a breakout performance in doubles and singles as he and Mauritz Seitz dismantled the FCC No. 1, 8-1. Then Ada Guler turned his focus to singles and had a very positive day blanking his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Vaquero No. 6 Sky Benes continued to show improvement, as he took the 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 victory against a very athletic opponent. "Our match today went very well, and it was a fun and spirited environment as the women's team played simultaneously and we were able to root each other on," said Benes. "The conditions were a little challenging with warmer weather but the energy was great. I am happy with my performance as I was able to extend rallies and wear down my opponent."

The Vaqs are 3-6 and host Glendale at Pershing Park on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
