The WSC Prelims were held for men's track and field on Friday at College of the Canyons with four finals staged in field events.

SBCC's Michael Orosco took second in the discus final with a PR of 40.27 meters and Scott Santella was second in the javelin (51.12m). Orosco is a freshman from San Marcos High and Santella is a sophomore from Carpinteria High. The top six places in the field events earned spots in the Southern Cal Prelims.

In running events, the top nine finishers (top 12 in 1500) qualified for the WSC Championships on Friday, April 25 at Antelope Valley College.

Bas van Leersum was the No. 1 qualifier in the 400 hurdles in 54.57. He also qualified in the 100 high hurdles, finishing seventh in 15.95.

Alex Heuchert was also a two-time qualifier, taking third in the 1500 (4:00.54) and seventh in the 800 (1:58.01). Omar Padilla-Lopez was third in the 10,000 (33:53.75).

Nicholas Smith qualified in the 100, clocking 11.26 for seventh place.

Glendale leads the team scoring with 54 points. SBCC is fourth with 24.
