So Cal Finals Results
Bas van Leersum placed fifth in the 400 hurdles on Saturday at the Southern Cal Men's Track & Field Finals. Alex Heuchert finished eighth in the 1500 (4:03.25) in the meet at Riverside City College and also earned a berth in the State Finals.
The top four in the lane events (100 through 800) and top six in the 1500 and up automatically advanced to the State Finals on May 16-17 at Mt. San Antonio College.
Van Leersum's time of 53.77 was the third-fastest in SBCC history. He earned a spot in the State Finals because his time was better than the fifth-place finisher in Northern California. Van Leersum is a freshman from the Netherlands.
Heuchert, a freshman from San Marcos High, ran 4:03.25 and also qualified based on his time.
Scott Santella was eighth in the javelin at 50.30 meters. Omar Padilla-Lopez took 12th in the 5000 in a PR of 15:52.43 and Martin Montes was 25th in 16:48.
