Higby gets four wins in WSC North meet

Tyler Higby notched four wins on Friday, including a come-from-behind anchor leg that propelled SBCC to victory in the 4 x 100 relay in the WSC North men's track and field meet at Bakersfield College.

The freshman from Boise, Idaho, captured the 100 in 11.07, the 200 in 21.93 and the long jump in 6.74 meters. Other members of the 4 x 100 team were Roberto Ayala, Simon Bailey and Ryan Hoffman. Higby's 200 time was No. 7 on SBCC's all-time list.

The Vaqueros posted seven wins and 21 season bests to finish second in the six-team field with 115 points. Cuesta was the winner with 143 points,

Other individual winners were Bas van Leersum in the 400 hurdles (53.61), Aaron Mateski in the javelin (54.70 meters) and John Morgan in the discus (43.44m).

"It was a good day for the Vaqueros," noted coach Scott Fickerson. "We had more event wins than any other school in this meet. Tyler had a great day for the men, contributing 40 points to the team's runner-up finish."

The Vaqueros will compete in the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal St. Fullerton and the Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday, March 13.
