Bas van Leersum lowered his school record with a 53.21 in the 400 hurdles on Saturday in the Ben Brown Invitational men's track and field meet at Cal St. Fullerton. He shaved 0.11 off the school record time he set three weeks ago.

Marvin Magg rose up to No. 4 on SBCC's all-time list with a javelin throw of 56.18 meters on a hot day with temperatures in the 90s. The two-day meet featured four-year schools USC, Pepperdine, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Fresno State and Cal St. Fullerton as well as Community Colleges and unattached competitors.

Van Leersum also ran a leg on the 4 x 100 relay that clocked 42.61, tying last year's team for the 8th-fastest in school history. The unit was changed up, going from Ryan Hoffman to Van Leersum to Simon Bailey to Tyler Higby.

Higby came back to run the No. 8 100 time in school history with a 10.88 clocking.

"The conditions were really good for the sprints, jumps and throws," noted coach Scott Fickerson. "It was hot and still. We had some athletes really take advantage of the great competition and the weather today. The sprinters really came to run."

The Vaqueros will host the Easter Relays on Friday at 11 a.m.
