SBCC captured a pair of relays on Friday in the 77th Easter Relays men's track and field meet at La Playa Stadium.

Ryan Hoffman, Bas van Leersum, Simon Bailey and Tyler Higby tied the No. 5 all-time school mark with their winning 42.18 effort in the 4 x 100 relay. The same foursome took the 4 x 400 relay by a second over Pasadena in 3:19.82. That was the eighth-best all-time mark.

Higby is this week's WSC Athlete of the Week after winning four events at the WSC North Meet on Feb. 27.

SBCC had two wins in field events. Marvin Magg took the shot put at 14.23 meters, the No. 7 throw in school history. Aaron Mateski won the javelin in a season-best 54.97m (180 feet, 4 inches).

Magg was busy on Friday, finishing in the top five in four throwing events. The sophomore from Germany was first in the shot put (46-8¼), second in the javelin, third in the hammer and fifth in the discus. Phillip Skopnik was second in the hammer.

"Our throwers had a really good day with a lot of PRs," stated coach Scott Fickerson. "They really enjoyed throwing at home. Our relay foursome shone as well and they are really gelling as a group and starting to put up some great times."

The Vaqueros travel to San Luis Obispo on Friday to compete in the WSC Coastal Meet.
