Mateski takes third in State javelin, earns All-American status

Aaron Mateski threw the javelin 58.62 meters on Friday to grab third place at the CCCAA State Track & Field Championships in San Mateo.

The sophomore from North Bend, Oregon, eclipsed his runner-up finish in last week's Southern Cal Championships by 1.66 meters with a heave of 192 feet, 4 inches. He earned All-American honors with the fourth-longest throw in school history. He set the No. 2 school mark of 59.54 meters earlier in the year

Marvin Magg took 10th place at 47.91 meters.

Two more Vaqueros will be in action on Saturday. Bas van Leersum is the No. 1 seed in the 400 hurdles (52.51) while Alex Heuchert is No. 6 in the 1500 (3:54.99).
