Ramirez, Grimmitt run 1-2 in Soka Invitational

SBCC's Alex Ramirez and Adam Grimmitt took the top two spots in the mile on Saturday in the Soka University Invitational at Aliso Viejo.

Ramirez, a freshman from Buena High, was clocked in 4:26.99, just 12 hundredths of a second in front of Grimmitt (4:27.11), a sophomore from Rocklin, Calif. They topped a field of 19 runners.

The meet featured four-year schools like Westmont, Biola, Vanguard, Concordia and Soka as well as Community College schools West L.A. and Golden West and club athletes.

Anton Nilsson, a freshman from Sweden, took first in the 400 meters (49.23), beating runner-up Brian Marcus of Biola by two seconds in a field of 19. Nilsson was second in the 200 (22.46).

Joseph Ochoa heaved the shot put 12.96 meters to take second and Diego Tapia was second in the hammer at 12.24 meters.

The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Relays on Friday at Ventura College, starting at 10 a.m.
