Roberson, Tapia post ninths in Occidental Distance Carnival

Robert Roberson and Diego Tapia placed ninth in the long jump and hammer, respectively, on Friday in a crowded field at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic men's track and field meet in Eagle Rock.

Roberson, a freshman from Bakersfield, leaped a season-best 6.61 meters (21-8¼) to place ninth out of 21 competitors in the long jump. Cameron Shinn was 15th at 6.23 meters.

Tapia took ninth in the hammer at 35.80 meters (117-5). Teammate Joseph Ochoa was 11th at 33.94 meters.

Anton Nilsson grabbed 10th in the 400 in 50.06 against a field that featured many four-year schools like Loyola Marymount, Cal State L.A., Cal Poly Pomona, Westmont, Cal Lutheran and Pomona Pitzer as well as other community colleges and club athletes.

Max Schrock was 12th in the javelin at 37.79 meters (124-0) and Giovanni Giordani took 14th at 36.93 meters.

Patrick Lownes-Santos was 39th in a 1500 field of 133 runners, clocking 4:07.96. Alex Ramirez was 111th in the 5000 in 15:31.40. The 5000-meter race featured 252 runners. Jacob Ogawa placed 57th in the 800 in 2:03.25.

The Vaqueros will make the short trek to Montecito for the Westmont Collegiate Classic on Saturday at 10 a.m.
