Shinn, Roberson qualify for Southern Cal meet in long jump

Cameron Shinn placed third in the WSC long jump final on Friday and SBCC teammate Robert Roberson was fifth in the WSC Prelims men's track and field meet at College of the Canyons.

Shinn, a freshman from San Marcos High, set a personal record with his leap of 6.68 meters (21 feet, 11 inches). Roberson jumped 6.56 meters.

All the field events and the 10000 were finals on Friday. The top six from the finals qualify for the So Cal Prelims on May 7 at Antelope Valley.

Three Vaqueros earned spots in the WSC Championships, which will take place Friday at Bakersfield. Field events start at 1 p.m. and running events at 3:30 p.m.

Anton Nilsson was second in the 400 hurdles at the WSC Prelims, clocking 55.65. Adam Grimmitt was fifth in the 1500 in a PR of 4:01.91 and Alex Ramirez took eighth in 4:04.87.
