Cameron Shinn took second in the triple jump on Friday in the WSC Track & Field Championships at Bakersfield College.

The freshman from San Marcos High recorded a PR of 14.22 meters (46-7¾) for the 10th-best mark in school history. He took third in the WSC long jump last week, so he'll compete in both events at the Southern Cal Prelims on Saturday at Antelope Valley College.

Joseph Ochoa was third in the discus (41.87m) and Anton Nilsson took third in the 400 hurdles in 54.70. Other So Cal qualifiers were Alex Ramirez (5th, 1500, 4:01.44), Adam Grimmitt (5th, 3000 steeplechase, 9:54.17) and Robert Roberson, who placed fifth in the long jump.

Diego Tapia was sixth in the hammer (37.70m) and Kyle Whitaker took sixth in the pole vault (4.22m, 13-10¼).

Cuesta topped the 11-team field and claimed the WSC crown with 141 points, edging Canyons (135) and Glendale (128). SBCC was eighth with 47 points.
