Edward Jones placed fifth in the discus with a season-best 40.83 meters and five other SBCC athletes set season bests in the Occidental Spring Break Classic track & field meet on Friday in Eagle Rock.
The event featured a multitude of athletes from the NCAA Div. 1, 2 and 3 schools as well as NAIA and Community College competitors.
Andres Castro, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, recorded a season-best 11.62 in the 100 meters. He finished third in his heat in a race that featured 72 runners in 12 heats. Other season lows were turned in by Jordan Shinn (800, 2:05.67), Jacob Ogawa (1500, 4:16.50), Evan Askar (5000, 15:29.29) and Alex Ramirez (5000, 15:29.43).
The Vaqueros will compete in the Antelope Valley Invitational in Lancaster on St. Patrick's Day (Friday) at 10 a.m.
