Don Willis

Don Willis was named head coach of the Men's & Women's Track & Field teams on June 11, 2020. He's also the assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator for the Vaquero football team.

At the 2023 state championships, Willis coached All-American freshman Sage Holter to a state title in the women's 10K and Ryan Gregory to third in the decathlon.

He was the Head Track and Field coach at Cabrillo High in Lompoc from 2010-11 and Santa Maria High in 2012. In 2011, the Cabrillo boys were Los Padres League champions. Coach Willis coached several athletes to CIF Prelims and Finals participation including a variety of events from Throws to Sprints and Jumps.

Coach Willis graduated from Cabrillo High in 1991. He was a three-time CIF champion in the shot put and discus, as well as a two-time team champion. He capped his high school career with 5th and 6th-place finishes at the California State Track and Field Championships in 1991. A star lineman in his prep days, he received a full football scholarship to the University of Washington and helped the Huskies win a national championship with a 12-0 record in 1991. He also competed in the shot put and discus in the NCAA indoor season for the Huskies' track & field team.

Coach Willis is married to Rebecca Willis and they have a blended family including seven children: Justin (33), Christopher (31), Tiffani (28), Ted (28), Cy (28), Gabby (24) and Jae’Lynn (20).
