Wopat sparks 3-0 sweep of San Diego Miramar

Jackson Wopat recorded 11 kills and a .471 percentage on Saturday, leading SBCC to a 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 sweep at San Diego Miramar.

The Vaqueros (3-2) played the nonconference match at noon, just 16 hours after sweeping Palomar 3-0 on Friday night.

Wopat, a 6-5 freshman opposite from Dos Pueblos High, transferred to SBCC from UC San Diego. Robert Gulvin and Haward Gomes added five kills apiece while middle blocker Matt Hall had four kills in five tries for an .800 percentage.

The Vaqueros hit .440 in the third set and a season-high .302 for the match.

"Our ball control was better and we played a pretty steady match," said coach Matt Jones, who was an outstanding basketball and volleyball player at nearby La Jolla High. "This was a little cleaner match from start to finish than last night."

Jonathan Baldwin had two solo blocks and handed out 16 assists as the setter in sets 2 and 3.

The Vaqueros will host Golden West on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
