SBCC had an off night and Santa Monica took advantage on Friday with a .333 hitting percentage in a 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 men's volleyball sweep of the visiting Vaqueros.

"It was, by far, our worst blocking night of the year," said coach Matt Jones. "We didn't read a lot of situations well. We played uninspired and our overall energy and effort was not where it needed to be for a competitive league game."

Taylor McCluskey led the Vaqueros (5-4, 0-2) with 16 kills, a .379 hitting percentage and five digs. Robert Gulvin had four kills and hit .400.

Kyle Skinner topped the Corsairs (4-5, 2-0) with 11 kills and a .400 percentage. Junchen Pan added nine kills and six blocks. Santa Monica had 13 blocks, including seven solo. The Vaqueros hit .205 with only four blocks. They had one service ace and seven errors.

"This isn't the way we wanted to start the conference," Jones added. "We have to go back to the drawing board on Monday."

The Vaqueros will play their next two WSC matches at home – Wednesday vs. Moorpark and Friday vs. L.A. Trade Tech with both starting at 6 p.m.
