El Camino downs Vaqueros 3-1

El Camino took the first two sets on Wednesday night on the way to a 3-1 WSC men's volleyball win over SBCC in Torrance. The scores were 25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 25-11.

Robert Gulvin and Jackson Wopat topped the Vaqueros (7-5, 2-3) with 11 kills and four digs apiece. Taylor McCluskey, who ranks No. 2 on the state kill chart and No. 4 in digs, added nine kills. The Warriors (6-6, 3-2) outhit the Vaqueros .245 to .088.

"It's concerning," said SBCC coach Matt Jones. "We had a new lineup that looked good against Moorpark but tonight we reverted to the way we played in a loss at Santa Monica – uninspired with poor execution and confidence.

"I thought we matched up better with this team but we're struggling to execute right now."

After a bye on Friday, the Vaqueros will play at L.A. Pierce on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
