Vaqueros swept by first-place Vikings

Long Beach City College outhit SBCC .320 to .120 on Friday night in a 25-16, 26-24, 25-18 men's volleyball sweep at Viking Gym.

It was the 14th straight win for the first-place Vikings (14-2, 7-0 WSC), who were led by Joshua Nehls with 15 kills and eight digs. Taylor McCluskey had 14 kills for the Vaqueros (8-6, 3-4).

"We got them out of system a decent amount but we had more real trouble balls," said coach Matt Jones. "We made a lot of good swings but they defended well with their blocks and digs."

Haward Gomes had six kills, three blocks and 12 digs while Kyle Smiley recorded 31 assists.

The Vaqueros will host Santa Monica on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
