Sean Reynaert had 10 kills and hit. 450 on Friday but No. 10 SBCC couldn't keep up with No. 5 Long Beach in a 3-1 men's volleyball loss at the Sports Pavilion. The scores were 25-9, 19-25, 25-7, 25-15.

Reynaert had his first hitting error in his last three matches (10 kills, 1 error in 20 attacks) and is hitting a superior .492 in that stretch.

"Long Beach came out with a lot of energy and firepower and controlled the match from the start of the first set," said Vaquero coach Jon Newton. "We battled back in Set 2 and once we started playing fundamental volleyball, we caught them making errors and took advantage of that.

"After that we couldn't keep up the energy and focus to control the match. If you can't do that against a good program, they will win the match every time."

Quinlan Dougherty added nine kills and a .333 percentage for the Vaqueros (3-6). Jarrod Jordan had three kills and five blocks. The defending state champion Vikings (7-3) won their fourth straight match.

Jonathan Baldwin had 24 assists and 10 digs for Santa Barbara, which hit minus .154 and minus .059 in the first and third sets and a robust .571 in the second set. They hit .188 for the match.

The Vaqueros will host No. 3 Santa Monica (8-1) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
