After playing 11 non conference opponents to start the season, the Santa Barbara City College men's volleyball team began their Western State Conference North schedule by sweeping Antelope Valley at home.  It was the Vaqueros third straight sweep.

"We went out and played steady volleyball by limiting errors," said SBCC head coach Jon Newton.  "Again, it was another full team effort to win this match with everyone getting into the game.  It's nice to have a group of players where we can put an entire new lineup in and not skip a beat."

SBCC (9-3, 1-0 WSC North) got off to a quick start, playing crisp volleyball in taking the first set 25-15.

The depth that Coach Newton was on display much of the second and third games of the match as a steady rotation of the entire Vaqueros roster saw time on the floor.

The fourth-ranked Vaqueros won a close second set, 25-21 and then took the third 25-19 to clinch the win.

Blake Lockhart and Haward Gomes led the Vaqueros with nine kills each.  Bradley Kleven led the non-starters with four kills.  Gomes performed well on defense too, tying with Scott Sanborn to lead the team with two blocks each.  Adam Simonetti paced the Vaqueros with 27 assists and Misaki Cramer registered five digs.

The Vaqueros have a week off before returning to the court for a pivotal WSC North home match against LA Pierce.  Game time is set for 6:00 p.m..
