SBCC to honor legendary coach with “Ed Gover Night” on March 16

SBCC will pay tribute to its retiring women's volleyball coach with "Ed Gover Night" on Saturday, March 16 in the Sports Pavilion.

The Vaquero men's volleyball team, ranked 6th in the state, will be hosting top-ranked Orange Coast. The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. and the match will start at 6:10 p.m. The event is free to the public and donations will be accepted for "Coaches vs. Cancer".

Gover recently announced his retirement after a 28-year career as women's volleyball coach. He compiled a 378-216 record (.636) and was 190-101 in the WSC North Division with 11 conference titles. He led the Vaqueros to a state runner-up finish in 1999 and fifth place in 2013 and 2015.

In the last 10 seasons, his winning percentage was .729 (186-69) and a sparkling .873 (89-13) in conference with eight WSC titles.

"Ed is not somebody who seeks recognition but we would be remiss to not recognize Ed's incredible accomplishments at SBCC," said second-year Athletic Director Rocco Constantino. "Coach Gover has positively impacted hundreds of student-athletes as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at SBCC and we would like to show him our appreciation. The event is free to attend and we hope to fill the gym to honor Coach Gover and then root on our Vaqueros against the top team in the state."
