SBCC's Alex Ramirez moved up steadily on Friday and took 26th out of 314 runners in the Southern Cal Preview men's cross country race at Irvine Regional Park.
Ramirez covered the 4-mile course in 21:34. Jose Tarula was 94th in 22:38 and Patrick Lownes-Santos took 122nd in 23:02. The Vaqueros finished 15th in the 32-team field.
"Alex moved up from the mid 60's in the early miles," said coach Scott Fickerson. "The course, a new location for us, consisted of flat fast portions punctuated by two short hills coming at 1 mile and 3 miles."
Sophomore Jacob Ogawa, coming off an illness, ran strongly to place 151st in his first race of the season. His time of 23:32 was just five seconds ahead of freshman Charlie Perry. Marcus Dunkel just missed going sub-24 with his 24:02 in 189th place and Parker Mitchell placed 234th in 24:52.
The Vaqueros will race in two weeks in the WSC Preview Meet on Sept. 30 at Bakersfield College, starting at 1 p.m.
