Kunes grabs 16th in huge field at Southern Cal Preview

Kaleb Kunes placed 16th in a field of 305 runners on Friday at the Southern Cal Preview men's cross country race in Santa Clarita.

The sophomore from Buena High covered the 4-mile course in 22:00. Charles Perry was 113th (23:28), Michael Cohen finished 229th in 25:47 and Giel Ketelslegers ran 30:05,

Raymond Lopez of Glendale was the winner in 21:00. Enrique Villa of Riverside took second in 21:19.

"Kaleb led the men today in his first race of the season," said coach Scott Fickerson. "It was a good start and I look forward to seeing him improve. All four of them ran smart races and got a good look at the course, which will help them for the Southern Cal Championship race on Nov. 3."

Mt. San Antonio ran away with the team title with 42 points. Glendale was second in the 27-team field with 68 points and Riverside was third at 84.

The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Preview on Sept. 29 at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.
