Kunes is 5th in WSC Championships; Vaqueros qualify for So Cal meet

Kaleb Kunes finished fifth in the WSC men's cross country championships on Friday, running a season-best 20:36 on the 4-mile course at Bakersfield.

Kunes, a sophomore from Buena High, ran the fastest time ever by a Vaquero on the course. SBCC teammate Charlie Perry was 33rd in 21:52, the fourth-fastest Vaq time on the course.

Raymond Lopez was the individual winner in 20:08, leading Glendale to the WSC team title with 42 points. Ventura was second at 86 and Santa Monica was third with 112.

Santa Barbara finished eighth out of 13 teams and earned a spot in the Southern Cal Championships.

SBCC's Jordan Shinn was 54th (23:03), Michael Cohen took 71st (24:03), Giel Ketelslegers was 89th (26:20), Orion Kuang was 91st (26:27) and Max Cardenas placed 94th (26:59).

Every Vaquero ran a season-best time.

The Vaqueros will run in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 3 at Central Park in Saugus.
