Kunes finishes 77th in State Championships

SBCC had one runner in the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday and he wasn't his usual self.

Kaleb Kunes, a freshman from Buena High, was sick the first half of the week. He finished 77th in a field of 175 runners on the 4-mile course at Fresno's Woodward Park in 21:54.

Two weeks earlier, Kunes was ninth in the Southern Cal Championships.

Manuel Fernandez of Mt. San Antonio was the individual champ in 20:06, beating Glendale's Raymond Lopez by 16 seconds.

The men's team championship was one of the closest in state history. Mt. SAC had five runners in the top 22 and edged Riverside 60-65.
