SBCC sent out two runners in Friday's season-opening Tour de Cuesta and the freshmen finished in the top 18 in their first college race.

Jacob Schroder, a freshman from Mammoth Lakes, took 12th in 24:32 and Ytxzae Enriquez from Carpinteria High was 18th in 25:47.

"They ran great in their first college races," said coach Scott Fickerson. "They went out controlled and moved up well. They raced like veterans despite being freshmen with little high school racing experience.

"They both show potential and I look forward to watching them improve."

Moorpark edged Long Beach for the team title 42-45 and Palomar was third with 74 points. Donovan Zavala of Long Beach won the 4-mile race in 22:44

The Vaqueros return to action on Sept. 13 in the Southern Cal Preview at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
