After SBCC tied its nonconference softball game in the top of the seventh on Tuesday, Melinda Alcantar untied it with a walk-off homer that gave L.A. Mission a 6-5 victory in Sylmar.

The Vaqueros (7-3) knotted the score in the top of the seventh when Sydney Townes doubled to center and Christal Vierra delivered an RBI single. The Eagles (10-2) won their seventh straight game.

"We're in a little bit of a funk right now, we're not very aggressive at the plate," said coach Paula Congleton. "We've been kind of passive the last two games and we're not sure why. We made too many mental errors on defense."

Vierra went 3-4 with two RBIs and Madison McNamee was 2-4 with a couple of RBIs. Sydney Townes and Monica Salas added two hits apiece.

The Vaqueros will play two games on Saturday at Ventura College vs. two strong teams. They'll take on Santiago Canyon (10-1), ranked No. 3 in the state, at noon and San Diego Mesa (11-3) at 2 p.m.
