Canyons ends outstanding Vaquero season, 11-7

SBCC got off to another slow start on Saturday, falling behind 7-1 after two innings, and dropped an 11-7 softball decision to Canyons in an elimination game of the Southern Cal Super Regional at Santiago Canyon College.

The ninth-seeded Vaqueros rallied to score three runs in the third and three more in the bottom of the seventh, leaving runners on 1st and 2nd in the last inning. This was SBCC's first trip to a Super Regional and the Vaqueros finish with a 30-14 record for the second-most wins in school history.

Kiana Holder went 3-4 with two homers and three RBIs for the No. 6 Cougars (32-13).

Catcher Monica Salas paced the Vaqueros, going 2-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run triple in the third that cut the deficit to 7-4. Alyssa Rae-Jewell went 3-4, Maggie Jo Jackson was 2-3 and Sydney Townes was 2-4. They each scored two runs.

Christal Vierra drove in two runs in her final game for the Vaqueros and Lyndsi King had a two-run single in the seventh.

The Vaqueros outhit the Cougars 13-12 but committed three errors, leading to three unearned runs.

Madison McNamee (17-9) took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in two innings. King made her first appearance of the year in the circle, throwing five innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits.
