Two days after scoring 49 runs in two games, SBCC's bats were silenced by Caitlin Vinyard as Moorpark handed the Vaqueros a 9-1 setback in a WSC North softball game at Moorpark. The game ended after six innings due to the 8-run rule.

Vinyard, the 2016 WSC Gold Division Pitcher of the Year, held the Vaqueros (9-3, 4-1) to one run on two hits and struck out 14, boosting her record to 8-0. The Raiders (8-1, 2-1) led 5-0 after three innings.

Sydney Townes singled in the third and Monica Salas hit a solo homer in the fourth for the Vaqueros. Catcher Lacee Smollen paced the Raiders by going 2-3 with three RBIs.

"We were a little flat today and I'm not really sure why," said SBCC coach Paula Congleton. "We struggled with Vinyard's riseball.

"Sometimes, you just have an off-day. If we're going to have one, I'd much rather have it at the start of conference than near the end."

The Vaqueros will play three road games this weekend. They travel to Long Beach City on Saturday at 1 p.m., then play two at Pasadena City on Sunday. They'll battle Pasadena at 11 a.m. and Southwestern at 1 p.m.
