SBCC erupted for 14 runs on Saturday but they weren't enough as Canyons recorded a softball sweep in Santa Clarita with a 9-4 win and an 11-10 decision in 10 innings.

Canyons (19-11) is 12-3 in its last 15 games. The Cougars rapped 11 hits in the first game and scored in five of six inning. Joy Veloz and Megan Wilson held the Vaqueros (11-14) to three singles.

The Vaqueros collected a season-high 19 hits with four doubles in the second game. They led 4-0 after one inning and 8-4 after three, thanks to a two-run double by Isabella Gregson and a two-run single in the third by starting pitcher Calista Wendell.

Sloane Greeley went 4-6 with two doubles for the Vaqueros. Madison Foster was 3-4 with two RBIs. Emily Bland, Chloe Wells, Wendell and Jasmine Manson all had two hits.

The Vaqueros went ahead 9-4, then Canyons tied it at 9 with five runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. SBCC took a 10-9 lead on Kayla Sanchez' RBI single to center in the seventh. The Cougars tied it in the bottom of the seventh when Jordan Vallejo scored on a passed ball.

Starting in the 10th, each team got to place a runner at second base to start the inning. Brandi Almaraz started at second for the Vaqueros and Gregson hit a deep flyout to center. But Almaraz was called out for leaving the base early and Manson struck out for the third out. Canyons won it 11-10 on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th.

"Even though we lost both games, I am extremely proud of my girls," said coach Justine Bosio. "We had to battle adversity in the second game from the first pitch. It's frustrating when things don't go in your favor, but we battled in every way possible. My sophomores all stepped up today in all the different ways I asked them too. It was a full team effort and even though we lost, it was a big team victory in my book."

The Vaqueros will travel to Ventura for a rain makeup on Tuesday, then host Moorpark on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
