Danielle Stallings tossed a one-hitter on Saturday and No. 7 Santiago Canyon scored six runs in the first two innings on the way to an 8-0 softball shutout of SBCC in five innings at Ventura College.

Madison Foster broke up a perfect game on a single with one out in the top of the fifth.

The Vaqueros are 12-16. The Hawks, who brought a .351 batting average into the game, are 27-8.

"Calista (Wendell) started for us today and pitched well," said coach Justine Bosio. "We made some errors behind her and they capitalized. I put Isabella Gregson in to give them a different look. Both pitchers threw well enough to keep it close but defensively, we couldn't back them up.

"When you make errors against a good team, they will make you pay for it. We put the ball in play today but just right at people."

The Vaqueros will travel to Cuesta for a rain makeup on Monday at 2:30 p.m., then host Santa Monica on Tuesday.
