SBCC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh on Thursday afternoon and had the bases loaded with two outs before Hancock's Shaylyn Coy got Kayana Diaz to fly out to right field to secure the Bulldogs' 5-4 WSC North softball victory at Pershing Park.

Samantha Yanes and Hannah Weaver both went 2-4 for the Vaqueros (6-18, 2-7) and Shelby Featherston had an RBI triple in the first and drove in three runs.

Coy gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out 10 for the Bulldogs (8-10, 4-6). Left-hander Paige Powell was the hard-luck loser, giving up five runs on three hits and two errors.

The Vaqueros, who were playing their third game in four days, had seven hits and six errors. Hancock scored five unearned runs in the fourth on three hits and a pair of errors.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Vaqueros got three straight singles by Carson Dunckley, Kaelyn Whitten and an RBI single to right by Yanes. Emily LoneTree struck out for the second out and Weaver singled up the middle to load the bases. Featherston fouled off a couple of pitches with a 3-2 count, then walked to force in Whitten and make it 5-4.

Coy then got Diaz on a fly ball near the right-field foul line that was caught by Siana Castillo.

"It was nice to see a little fire in the seventh inning," said Vaquero coach Justine Bosio. "I told them in the post-game talk that the way we approached the seventh inning is the way we should approach every at-bat.

"Paige pitched a great game and when we make errors, it seems to be a snowball effect."

The Vaqueros took a 2-0 lead with an unearned run in the first and another in the third. Yanes reached on an error in the first, stole second and scored on Featherston's triple into the right-field corner. Yanes led off the third with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Featherston.

The Vaqueros will host Riverside in a non-conference game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
