Cuesta surprises Vaqueros with 3-2 walk-off win

Cuesta scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh on Friday to edge SBCC 3-2 in a WSC North softball game in San Luis Obispo.

The Vaqueros (10-22, 6-8) took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Kayana Diaz and Shelby Featherston singled and Diaz scored on an error in the fourth and Emily LoneTree singled in the fifth and scored when the third baseman made an error on a ball hit by Janet Salas. LoneTree had two of the Vaqueros' six hits.

The Cougars (8-27, 3-11) were routed by the Vaqueros 16-3 just one week ago. Kat Cline paced the Cuesta offense, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Cline had an RBI single in the seventh and Irene Sias delivered the walk-off hit with a two-out RBI single.

SBCC freshman Paige Powell pitched all seven innings, giving up just one earned run on 10 hits.

The Vaqueros will play their final home game on Tuesday when Santa Monica comes to Pershing Park at 2:30 p.m.
