SBCC Softball Ends Season with Defeat at Cuesta

SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC softball team fell to Cuesta 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday in its final game of the regular season.

The Vaqueros end the year with a mark of 10-30 overall and 4-8 in the WSC, while the Cougars improved to 14-23 overall, 5-7 conference.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • SBCC got two hits in the game, one each from shortstop/catcher Linnéa Sandhal and third baseman Isabella Huckaby.
  • It was a huge turnaround from the two teams' meeting less than a month ago on Mar. 31, when the Vaqueros exploded for 16 hits in a 9-8, 8-inning win in Santa Barbara.
  • Cuesta finished with nine hits and four walks, scoring nine of their 10 runs between the third and fourth innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st-2nd Innings (1-0 Cuesta)

  • It was a relatively quiet first two innings for both offenses. Cuesta picked up outs on each of SBCC's first six batters.
  • In the bottom of the first, the Cougars opened the scoring with an unearned run from center fielder Mara Mazanec, who initially struck out but made it to first on a passed ball.

3rd-5th Innings (10-0 Cuesta)

  • Cuesta added three more runs in the third, two coming on a Vaquero error.
  • The Cougars would blow the game open in the fourth, first putting up two runs on a triple by shortstop Alura Neill.
  • Neill would score on a wild pitch and Cuesta reached 10 runs with a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single.
