SANTA BARBARA, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Softball team lost at home to conference foe Allan Hancock on Thursday, 14-7.

Errors plagued the Vaqueros in the high-scoring affair, as 7 errors lead to 11 unearned runs.

Hancock scored a run in the top of the 1st, but the Vaqueros answered with 2 of their own thanks to Alena Johnson's sacrifice fly and Elliana Ryan's double.

It remained 2-1 into the 3rd inning, before an RBI groundout for Hancock tied the game at 2 apiece.

The game got away from SBCC in the 4th, though. Hancock erupted for a 6-run inning on 5 hits—including 2 doubles—2 errors, and 2 wild pitches, taking an 8-2 lead.

Johnson and Ryan would again drive in a run each in the bottom of the 5th, bringing the Vaqs a tad closer at 8-4. However, a 2-out error in the next half inning led to 2 more runs scoring for Hancock, pushing the deficit back to 6 at 10-4.

Melissa Rodriguez hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the 6th, and Ryan homered with Johnson on-base in the 7th as the Vaqueros ended the day with 5 extra base hits. Hancock would tack on 4 more in between in the top of the 7th, though, resulting in the 14-7 final.

Jessica Reveles, Johnson, Ryan, and Rodriguez all had multi-hit games. Ryan tallied 4 RBIs, and Johnson drove in 2.

SBCC has a quick turnaround, traveling all the way to Fremont for a doubleheader against Ohlone on Friday starting at 12:00 noon.
