SANTA BARBARA, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Softball team beat Santa Monica on Thursday, improving to 6-3 in conference play.

The 12-0 rout was largely thanks to a huge 1st inning, kicked off by a Mia Reveles triple with an error that immediately put the Vaqs up 1-0. Jessica Reveles, Elliana Ryan, Mackenzie Ensign, Melissa Rodriguez, Julianna Ortiz, and Alexia Ayala all singled before Mia Reveles doubled for her second extra base hit of the inning. After 12 batters came to the plate, it was 9-0 after 1.

After tacking on 3 more in the 3rd, that would be all the scoring for SBCC, only having 4 offensive innings in the 5-inning run-rule win.

Alena Johnson pitched a 5-inning no-hitter, striking out 4. She allowed just 2 baserunners via a 1st-inning walk and a later error. A double play and the batter/runner getting thrown out on the error meant that she faced the minimum—15 up, 15 down. Johnson lowered her ERA to 2.57, second in the conference.

Mia Reveles, Mackenzie Ensign, and Alexia Ayala each had multi-hit days at the plate. 8 out of the 9 Vaqueros starters scored a run, and 7 out of 9 drove in a run.

Rain cancelled the Vaqueros' Friday home doubleheader against Reedley, but SBCC hopes to play Saturday at non-conference Riverside at 1:00 PM.
