Oxnard jumped out to leads of 13-1 and 23-5 in Saturday's WSC North game and SBCC rallied but could never get the lead in a 72-65 setback at Oxnard.

Andrea Morales hit 9-11 free throws and scored 19 points with eight rebounds and four steals. She leads the team in scoring (12.5) and is averaging 15.8 in her last six games.

Stella Dulay tossed in 14 points and collected a season-high eight rebounds, including six offensive. Dulay made 10-14 from the FT line on a night the Vaqueros (5-11, 0-1) shot 72.3 percent (34-47) from the charity stripe.

They only made 22.6 percent from the field (14-62), however, and committed 33 turnovers. The Vaqueros made 24 steals and closed within three points late in the first half (31-28) after a 23-8 run. They trailed 36-28 at intermission.

Darla Morales had 10 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists.

Oxnard got its first win (1-10, 1-1) thanks to 43.1 percent shooting, including 5-11 on 3-pointers. The Vaqueros were 3-21 from long range.

SBCC closed within three points a handful of times in the second half and got within one, 57-56, when Victoria Jackson made two free throws to cap an 11-0 Vaquero streak with 6:02 to play. But the Condors reeled off six straight to boost the lead back to seven.

"I'm not upset because we played hard," said coach Sandrine Krul. "We just couldn't make a shot."

The Vaqueros will host Moorpark on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. WSC contest.
