Destinee King was honored as female Athlete of the Week on Monday during the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café. The award goes to the top performace in the Santa Barbara area for all high schools and colleges.
King, a 5-10 freshman guard/forward from Antelope, Calif. near Sacramento, recorded season highs with 30 points and 20 rebounds in a 66-37 win at Hancock in the WSC North opener. She hit 11-of-18 from the field and 8-11 from the free-throw line. She had a double-double by halftime with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
King has 11 double-doubles in 17 games this season. She's shooting 46.5 percent from the field and ranks 18th in state scoring (17.6) and 15th in rebounding (11.1).
It was the third straight win and sixth in seven games for the Vaqueros (10-7, 1-0). Hancock was ranked No. 14 in Southern California and had the state's best defense, allowing just 41.8 points.
The Vaqueros will host Cuesta on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
