Santa Monica shoots down Vaqueros, 95-65

Santa Monica built a 31-16 lead after one quarter on Wednesday night and went on to defeat SBCC 95-65 in a nonconference women's basketball game.

The host Corsairs (1-1) outshot the Vaqueros 45 to 29 percent and made 11-of-28 from 3-point country. The Vaqueros (0-2) commited twice as many turnovers (26-13).

Jada Clark, a 6-1 freshman from Edwards, Calif., had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds for Santa Barbara. The Vaqueros trailed 47-31 at the half, then got outscored 31-19 in the third quarter.

"It was one of those nights," said coach Sandrine Krul. "We just didn't shoot well and they hit everything."

Stella Dulay added 11 points and five rebounds while Destinee King had 10 points and five boards. Destiny Renteria added 10 points and Diamond Alexander had nine points and eight rebounds for the Vaqueros, who won the board battle 52-40.

The Vaqueros will host the SBCC Crossover this weekend, taking on Fullerton on Friday at 7 p.m. and San Diego City on Saturday at 5 p.m.
