Moorpark tops Vaqueros 61-54 in consolation final

Emma Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, leading Moorpark to a 61-54 win over SBCC on Saturday morning in the consolation final of the Saddleback Lady Gaucho Classic women's basketball tournament.

The Raiders (3-3) led 33-29 at the half and 47-40 after three quarters. They outshot the Vaqueros 41.4 to 28.8 percent but SBCC won the battle of the boards, 52-42.

Stella Dulay led the Vaqueros (3-4) with 15 points, hitting 3-of-8 on 3-pointers. Jocelin Petatan had 13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, including nine on offense. Destinee King had nine points and 10 rebounds.

"Jocelin is a 5-7 guard and she grabbed 18 rebounds," noted SBCC coach Sandrine Krul. "We just couldn't get over the hump. We played well in spurts and cut it to three in the closing minutes."

The Raiders went up by 12 (41-29) with 6:58 to go in the third. The Vaqueros went on an 8-0 run in the fourth period and pulled within three, 57-54, on a layup by Petatan with 1:40 to play.

The Vaqueros will be home on Dec. 2-3 for the MTXE Mini-Crossover. They'll host College of Marin on Friday at 7 p.m. and Victor Valley on Saturday at 5 p.m.
