Destinee King has been selected as Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table. She received the award for the week of Jan. 9-15.
The 6-foot sophomore from Center High in Antelope, Calf. (near Sacramento) notched a career-high 31 points with 17 rebounds, six blocks, four assists and three steals in an 80-71 victory at Cuesta on Jan. 14. It was her seventh straight double-double and 11th of the season.
The Vaqueros trailed 31-22 in the second quarter, then closed on an 11-0 run to take a 33-31 halftime lead. King scored 21 in the second half.
King posted her 12th double-double last Wednesday with 20 points and 22 rebounds in an overtime win over Oxnard. She leads the WSC North in scoring (18.6) and is second in rebounds (11.6).
Santa Barbara (12-7, 2-1) hosts Moorpark (14-8, 2-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
