Jada Forsdick-Stevenson was a perfect 5-5 from 3-point country and scored a season-high 18 points as SBCC outlasted Antelope Valley 85-81 in an entertaining non-conference women's basketball game at the Sports Pavilion.
Jordan Parkhurst added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Vaqueros, who are off to a 4-1 start. The freshman from Dana Point made 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. Stevenson, a 5-8 guard/forward who played high school ball with Parkhurst at San Juan Hills, was 6-7 from the field. She drained four triples in the first two quarters when the Vaqueros took a slim 38-37 lead.
The Vaqueros shot a season-high 53.4 percent, including 8-17 (47.1%) on 3-pointers. Josephine Ferreira topped the Marauders (2-4) with 22 points.
Sophia Torres had 14 points in 18 minutes on 7-11 shooting and Alondra Jimenez contributed nine points and a season-high 11 assists.
Torres, who's averaging 18.0 points and 10.4 rebounds, picked up her fourth foul with 23 seconds left in the third and fouled out with 5:38 to play.
"This team works really well together and they always know how to regroup," said 16th-year head coach Sandrine Krul. "I'm always happy when eight of 11 players score. Tori Kelley came off the bench and got our defense going.
"We're at our best when we're in transition. With Sophia in foul trouble, Alyssa De Vries came off the bench and gave us quality possessions."
After falling behind 20-17 early in the second quarter, Santa Barbara went on a 12-1 run and took its biggest lead at 29-21 on a triple by Forsdick-Stevenson and a jumper by Kelley.
Kelley, De Vries and Sierra Cavaletto added seven points apiece off the bench.
SBCC took a 60-57 lead after three quarters and stretched it to six points (82-76) on two Parkhurst free throws with 49 seconds to play. AVC pulled within three, 83-80, before Jimenez hit 3-6 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the deal.
SBCC will play the last game of its season-opening six-game homestand on Thursday when L.A. Valley visits at 5 p.m.
