SANTA BARBARA, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Women's Basketball team won their season opener on Wednesday night over LA Harbor at home, 68-58.

"[The win] was all about team success," head coach Sandrine Krul said. "We get excited as a coaching staff when each one of our members contributes to the win. Our team knows we
do not rely on one player but the entire team to get the W."

That was true from the jump, as 7 different Vaqueros—including 4 off the bench—scored points in first quarter. SBCC had a 28-11 lead after one, and a 47-19 lead at halftime.

LA Harbor made it a game in the second half, though, outscoring the Vaqueros 17-10 in the third quarter and 22-11 in the fourth. However, the 10-point difference in the final score was the shortest lead of the second half for SBCC, who used the dominant first quarter to cruise to victory.

Jumping off of the stat sheet is the Vaqueros' bench points: 34 points from 6 different players. Lily Mires came off the bench to score 11 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Freshman Kaylee Bosetti was productive off the bench as well, with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

"[Our great bench performance] goes along with our program philosophy of MTXE and 14-4-40," Krul added. MTXE means Mental Toughness, eXtra Effort; 14-4-40 means 14 players, 4 quarters, 40 minutes.

Kiani Rojas led the team in points with 13, also providing 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Paityn Persson and Eva Carrejo led in rebounds with 11 and 10, each scoring 9 points as well. Freshman Jaden Bone was the top assisting Vaquero, dishing 6, with Leila Chisholm dishing 4.

The 1-0 Vaqueros are back at home Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM against Santa Ana.
